Last week Priory Belvoir welcomed @BottesfordPrimarySchool for a Murder Mystery Event to give them a taste of life at Belvoir. During this event students had to sift red herrings from real clues, sort their witnesses from their suspects and uncover the clues to work out exactly who Dun DUN DUNNNNN the murder of our beloved Library Assistant. The whole class did really well and came up with some fantastic theories. An especially big well done to team Scarlet and Ivy – nothing got past them! In the end the whole class won a book by Nathanael Lessore (a fantastic author that features on our year 7 curriculum). We look forward to meeting most of you again in the Summer, well done Year 6!
Iceland Expedition – Day 3 Today our students explored the flood plains beneath Eyjafjallajökull , where they were able to witness first-hand the impact of climate change and the ongoing retreat of Iceland's glaciers . Seeing these processes in the landscape brought classroom learning about environmental change, glaciation and sustainability to life. Students then took part in a glacier trek on Mýrdalsjökull , equipped with crampons and ice axes . Guided by experienced instructors, they learned about glacier formation, movement and erosion while navigating the ice and observing deep crevasses created by the immense forces within the glacier. Earlier in the day, we visited the magnificent Skógafoss waterfall . Fed by meltwater from the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap, the waterfall provided an excellent opportunity to discuss Iceland's water cycle and the relationship between glaciers, rivers and landscapes. The powerful spray even rewarded us with a spectacular double rainbow . Today perfectly combined adventure and education , giving students a unique opportunity to develop their understanding of physical geography while experiencing one of the world's most dynamic natural environments. It was another unforgettable day of learning beyond the classroom . #IcelandExpedition #LearningBeyondTheClassroom #GeographyInAction #Fieldwork #ClimateChange GlobalCitizens
Day 3 – The Priory Belvoir in Iceland Today we received a fascinating and insightful presentation at the Hellisheiði Power Station, Europe's largest geothermal power plant. Drawing on Iceland's abundant steam and hot water reserves, the plant's 30 boreholes power six high-pressure turbines, generating clean, renewable electricity for thousands of homes and businesses. Through an innovative heat-exchange system, the station also produces thermal energy, supplying hot water to surrounding communities. We also learned about Carbfix, a groundbreaking process that captures and recycles carbon dioxide by permanently storing it underground in volcanic rock, helping to reduce emissions and combat climate change. An inspiring example of how innovation and natural resources can work together to create a more sustainable future. #ThePrioryBelvoir #Iceland2026 #Hellisheidi #GeothermalEnergy #RenewableEnergy Sustainability Carbfix CleanEnergy EducationalVisit FutureFocused
